Tooth Bonding
Tooth bonding, also called dental bonding, is the process of adding composite material to your teeth to repair or correct a number of problems, including:
- Cracked teeth
- Broken teeth
- Chipped Teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Small teeth
- Uneven tooth surface
Tooth bonding is a versatile tooth-colored filling material. Dental bonding can be used to build up small or misshapen teeth, to replace chips in teeth, and to smooth the surface of teeth.
Tooth Bonding Material
Tooth bonding is done with composite material that has varying shades and levels of translucency. It is often used to fill in gaps between front teeth, and it is almost indistinguishable from natural tooth enamel when correctly selected and applied. Patients who prefer the even greater natural-looking versatility of porcelain can request porcelain inlays, onlays, or Lumineers instead of tooth bonding.
Dental bonding requires that the tooth or teeth have enough healthy tooth material to adhere to the composite. If there is too little tooth structure, a dental crown may be a more effective treatment method.
Dental Bonding vs. Lumineers
At Sierra Dental Care, we offer tooth bonding to our patients as an affordable solution to damaged or gapped teeth. While Lumineers are often a good option, they can be expensive, may not be necessary, and are usually recommended for patients who would like a noticeable change in their smile. Dental bonding applied to only one or two teeth will retain the overall look of your teeth, while revitalizing your smile.
