What does orthodontics treat?

 

Orthodontics is primarily concerned with treating malocclusions, or misaligned teeth. This can include:

• Crowded teeth
• Gaps between teeth
• Crooked teeth
• Overbites
• Underbites
• Other alignment issues

 

What doesn’t orthodontics treat?

 

Orthodontics specifically treats misaligned teeth. It does not treat general dentistry issues or cosmetic dentistry problems.

 

What will my dentist use to correct my smile?

The type of treatment you need will determine how our Modesto General Dentist corrects your smile. In many cases, treatment is given in stages, and each stage may require a different kind of dental appliance. Usually, we will recommend one or more of the following:

• Braces
• Retainers

 

Will I have to wear headgear to work or school?

 

Orthodontics has evolved and improved rapidly over the last three decades. However, headgear is still a very effective orthodontic tool to correct severe malocclusion. If headgear is needed, we recommend home use only and your friends and the public need not become aware of your appliance use.

 

Does Sierra Dental Care have an Orthodontist on staff?

 

No. Modesto Family Dentist, Dr Glenn Takenaga is a general dentist who now devotes most of his practice experience to orthodontic care. Sierra Dental Care is a full service family dentistry practice, and we offer all types of dentistry services, including orthodontics. Dr. Takenaga has completed two years of post-graduate studies in orthodontics and can provide orthodontic treatment for you and your family in the same location as you receive your regular cleanings and check-ups.

 

Is orthodontic treatment expensive?

 

The cost of orthodontics depends on the types of procedures and length of treatment period required. We will do our best to keep your treatment as affordable as possible. We accept most dental insurance plans, and we offer various financing options to patients without dental coverage.
