Questions About Lumineers
How are Lumineers different from traditional porcelain veneers?
Lumineers are much thinner than traditional porcelain veneers (they are approximately .2mm thick). As a result, our Modesto cosmetic dentists may not have to grind down your teeth, a necessary step if we were to use traditional porcelain veneers. They also are resistant to microleakage and microcracking.
Is the Lumineers procedure painful?
No, not necessarily. While traditional porcelain veneers may cause pain as a result of the need to grind down your teeth, the ultrathin properties of Lumineers enables our dentists to fit them to your teeth with minimal need for shots, needles, or grinding down of healthy tooth structure. There is also minimal post-placement discomfort, so you most likely will leave our office feeling pain free and with a dazzling new smile.
How long do Lumineers last?
The results of your Lumineers procedure should last for more than 5 years. Lumineers offer a five year warranty and are replaced free of charge during that time period.
Can Lumineers be removed?
No. At Sierra Dental Care we feel that Lumineers, like traditional porcelain veneers, are permanent restorations. Despite marketing ad campaigns that may suggest otherwise, the patient cannot and should not expect to treat this mode of treatment as reversible.
Can I still chew gum and eat my favorite sticky foods after getting Lumineers?
Yes. Since Lumineers are placed over your original teeth in a highly durable manner, you will be able to eat and drink normal foods. However, in order to make sure your Lumineers continue to look great, it will be important to visit our Modesto general dentists twice a year for regular check-ups and cleanings.
I think I need braces, but I don’t want to deal with the hassle. Can I get Lumineers instead?
Generally, yes. However, you will need to be examined by Dr. Takenaga, our orthodontic advisor, in order for us to conclusively affirm this statement. If your problem is not severe, Lumineers will be able to alter the shape and alignment of your teeth so that they look straighter and more consistent.
