Orthodontics Questions
Modesto, Manteca, Ceres, Turlock, Salida, Ripon, California Dentist
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Orthodontic treatment programs vary widely from one person to another. The length of time you need to wear braces depends upon a variety of factors, including: Jaw size, teeth size, alignment of your teeth, overbite, underbite, and many other characteristics of your teeth, bone, and jaw structure
For some patients, wearing braces for as little as six months will give them the straight teeth they desire. Other patients may need to wear braces for one to two years.
The only way to know how long you might have to wear braces is to come in and have one of our Modesto dentists evaluate your needs and develop a customized care plan.
Can orthodontics help prevent gum disease?
Improperly aligned teeth can result in damage to your oral health, including your teeth and gums. These problems make it harder to floss and adequately clean between teeth, which can lead to decay and gum disease.
Orthodontics helps reduce or prevent these problems by repositioning your teeth so that your dental hygiene efforts are most effective.
Can orthodontics cure TMJ?
Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) is a chronic or acute inflammation of the jaw joints that can make it difficult to bite or chew, among other things. If your bite is misaligned, it can cause TMJ and all of the problems associated with the disorder.
Orthodontic treatments such as wearing braces can help prevent TMJ by improving your bite and repositioning your jaw. If you already have TMJ, orthodontics can certainly help resolve the problem. The effectiveness of your treatment will depend on any other factors contributing to your TMJ. Our skilled General Dentist can help you determine the causes of your TMJ symptoms and recommend the most appropriate treatment options.
