Dental Implants
Modesto, Manteca, Ceres, Turlock, Salida, Ripon, California Dentist
A dental implant is a replacement tooth that is attached to the bones in your mouth, just like the roots of a real tooth. The first titanium dental implant was placed in a Swede in 1965 following research that showed bone growth around titanium implants in animals. Over the past four decades, advances in dental technology have made dental implants one of the most sought-after treatments for tooth loss.
Dental Implant Procedure
Dental implants consist of two parts: a titanium post and a dental crown. Before the post can be placed, your dentist will examine your gum and bone structure to insure that it can support an implant. If it can, the post will be secured directly to the bone. Over a period of several months, the bone will grow around the post through a process called osseointegration, which allows it to act as the roots of a tooth would.
After the bone has grown around the post, a tooth crown will be cemented to the post. Your gums will grow around the crown and the implant can become virtually indistinguishable from your surrounding natural teeth.
We generally use Astra implants with all of our patients. Our dental implant procedures are performed in conjunction with an oral surgeon who regularly works with our team. The oral surgeon is the most skilled and qualified person to handle the surgical work and our Modesto implant dentists are the most skilled and qualified to handle the restorative work. This team approach enables us to make the best use of each practitioner’s skills and experience so that you receive the highest quality dental care.
Dental Implant Popularity and Benefits
Dental implants have become a favorite tooth replacement treatment because they:
- Look like natural teeth
- Function like natural teeth
- Are very strong
- Require the same dental hygiene as natural teeth
- Do not rely on the surrounding teeth for stability
You can brush and floss between dental implants exactly like your natural teeth. While dental bridges and dentures may function well in place of lost teeth, they often do not mirror the appearance of your natural teeth. Dental implants, on the other hand, can be aesthetically identical to your natural teeth.
