Common Cosmetic Dental Problems
Cosmetic dentistry is not a new concept, though it has the ability to correct a broader range of dental issues than two or three decades ago. Procedures which could only offer limited cosmetic correction can now treat almost any concern, resulting in a beautiful, natural-looking smile makeover.
The following are common dental problems people seek cosmetic dentistry solutions for:
- Broken teeth – Teeth can be broken by chewing hard food,
poor tooth structure, or the expansion and contraction of metal
fillings over time.
- Cracked teeth – Cracked teeth can occur due to tooth grinding or weak tooth structure. Cracked teeth left untreated can become chipped or broken and eventually fall out.
- Chipped teeth – Chipped teeth differ from broken teeth in that only the enamel is often damaged, leaving the pulp inside the tooth protected. They can be easily repaired with cosmetic dentistry procedures.
- Crooked teeth – Conventional braces will correct most crooked teeth problems.
- Discolored teeth – Some tooth discoloration is caused by food and drinks, such as coffee or tea and can be easily treated with teeth whitening. If your teeth are stained because of a chemical reaction or medication, porcelain veneers are another option to provide you with healthy looking, white teeth.
- Disproportionate teeth – Some patients are concerned because their teeth are too small or too large for their smile. Often front teeth will be too large, or there will be gaps between teeth which are not large enough to fill in your smile.
- Gummy smile – If you feel that more of your gums show than your teeth when you smile, you have what is referred to as a “gummy smile.” Gum recontouring is a cosmetic dentistry procedure which allows our Modesto cosmetic dentists to reshape the line of your gums and make your teeth more visible.
- Missing teeth – If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants can offer you an aesthetically pleasing alternative to dentures or dental bridges.
